STEP 1 OF 67 · YOU ARE THE DIRECTOR AND DESIGNER
Define the game in one paragraph
Write who you play, what you do, what you want and why it is interesting. This paragraph is the compass every later decision is checked against.
How to do it
- Write the game title.
- Write one paragraph: the hero, the place, the goal, the twist that makes it yours.
- Read it out loud. If a friend could repeat it back, it is clear enough.
How AI speeds this up
Draft with Duke writes a first version from your idea. Rewrite it in your own words until it sounds like your game.
Example from a sample game
Ashfall: "Play as Kaia, a ranger modeled after the creator, on a volcanic frontier world. Explore a Veyl outpost, fight its guards, recover a stolen star-map and escape before the ash storm hits."
Before you move on
In Duke Forger, this step's gate checks:
- Verified by DukeTitle, a one-paragraph pitch (60+ characters), setting and tone written
Words to know
- Open world
- A game world the player can roam freely instead of following fixed levels.
- Vertical slice
- One small part of the game finished to final quality in every way. It proves the game can be made and sets the bar for everything else.
