STEP 13 OF 67 · YOU ARE THE TECHNICAL ARTIST

Organize and protect the project

Folders keep thousands of files findable. Version control keeps a history of every change so a broken change can be undone. A second backup protects you from a dead drive.

How to do it

  1. Inside Content create: Characters, Environments, Gameplay, Maps, Animation, Audio, UI.
  2. Turn the project folder into a Git repository with Git LFS for big files.
  3. Commit after every working change. Tag each milestone.
  4. Keep a second backup off this PC (cloud or external drive).
How AI speeds this up

Duke checks the folders and the repository for you.

Example from a sample game

Ashfall: Git + LFS, nightly backup to an external drive, tag "m1-prototype" after Phase 3.

Before you move on

In Duke Forger, this step's gate checks:

Words to know

Do step 13 on your own game

Included in Creator, Academy and Studio. Duke drafts it with you and checks it before step 14 opens.
