STEP 12 OF 67 · YOU ARE THE TECHNICAL ARTIST
Turn on the plugins this guide uses
Plugins add features to Unreal. You need procedural generation, crowds, NPC behavior, Python scripting, MetaHuman and the MCP plugin that lets AI agents operate the editor.
How to do it
- In Unreal: Edit, Plugins.
- Enable PCG, Mass Crowd (it brings Mass Entity), State Tree, Python Editor Script Plugin, MetaHuman and the experimental MCP plugin.
- Restart the editor when asked.
How AI speeds this up
Duke reads your project file and tells you which plugins are still off.
Example from a sample game
Ashfall: all six enabled.
Before you move on

Words to know
- Plugin

- Mass AI
- Unreal's system for simulating thousands of characters, cars or creatures efficiently.
- State Tree
- Unreal's system for NPC behavior: states like idle, alert, chase and attack, and the rules for switching between them.
- MCP plugin
- An experimental Unreal 5.8 plugin that lets AI agents operate the editor, such as placing objects or running tools, with your approval.
